Supported platforms
Which platforms Cola runs on — system requirements and chip architectures for the macOS and Windows desktop apps, what the iOS and Android apps are for, and how to reach Cola from channels like WeChat or from a terminal.
Cola is a desktop application: the agent runs on your computer, and files, memory, and history are stored locally.
The mobile apps and channels are entrances to that same Cola. Tasks are executed by the desktop app, so all of them depend on it running.
Desktop
| System | Architecture | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| macOS | Apple silicon, Intel | macOS 12 or later |
| Windows | x64, ARM64 | Windows 10 or later |
Both platforms have the same feature set, including voice input, Projects, smart alarms, skills, channel plugins, and MCP.
Installers are at colaos.ai/download. macOS ships Apple silicon and Intel as two separate packages.
Mobile
| System | Requirement |
|---|---|
| iOS | iOS 15 or later |
| Android | Android 8.0 or later |
Cola Mobile is a companion to the desktop app and does not run an agent on the phone. Tasks are executed by the desktop app and output files are stored on that computer; when the desktop app is not running, the mobile app cannot execute tasks.
Reaching Cola from other software
Each of these entrances connects to the same desktop app:
- Channels and plugins — WeChat is built in, other platforms connect through plugins, and tasks can be sent from a chat app.
- CLI — call Cola from a terminal or a script; the desktop app must be running.
- MCP — the reverse direction: connect external services into Cola for it to call.
Differences between platforms
The feature set is identical; differences are limited to keys and system settings paths:
| macOS | Windows | |
|---|---|---|
| Voice shortcut (default) | Option | Alt |
| Projects command palette | ⌘K | Ctrl+K |
| Where deleted files go | Trash | Recycle Bin |
| Microphone permission | System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone | Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone |
Voice, Wake Mini Chat, and Send Message can be changed under Settings > Shortcuts, and combinations that conflict with the system or an input method are flagged. The command palette shortcut is fixed.
FAQ
Can I install it on more than one computer? Yes. Each computer is an independent instance; memory, sessions, and skills are stored locally and do not sync automatically.
Can the mobile app see the desktop conversation? Yes. Mobile connects to the same desktop app, so it is the same conversation; it is unavailable while the desktop app is offline.
How do I move to a new computer? Memory and settings must be migrated manually — see Backup, migration, and uninstall.
